Just the word ‘picnic’ brings a smile to people of all ages and it doesn’t matter if you are going to a nearby park or to the outskirts. The idea of having lunch outdoors is exciting and fun, which is why families across the Northeast plan one such outing to celebrate the New Year. We list a few spots in the Northeast where you can enjoy a relaxing lunch with friends and family.
ROING (Arunachal Pradesh)
This is likely the most obvious choice in everyone’s bucket list. Roing, one of the jewels of Arunachal Pradesh, is situated in Lower Dibang Valley. Visitors are often mesmerized by the picturesque landscape, snow-capped peaks, interesting history and adventurous location. Roing is particularly a breath taking sight at sunrise and sunset. Few famous places to visit nearby is Mayudia, Sally Lake, Mahao Lake, Mishmi Hills, Iphi Pani Ghat, etc.
Chandubi is truly a gem. Located at a distance of 64 kilometers from Guwahati, it is a family friendly spot. A calm and peaceful place, it is surrounded by deep lush forests, tea gardens and small interesting villages. Chandubi’s chief feature is the natural lagoon that has been formed in the lake. Tourists can also go rowing in the calm lake water. The best time to visit the lake is during Chandubi Festival, which is held in January. Traditional and cultural dances are performed by the villagers.
KAKOCHANG WATERFALLS (Assam)
The Kakochang waterfalls is the perfect location to enjoy a packed lunch near Kaziranga. It is located about 13km from Bokakhat. To witness the waterfall, you will need to trek for approximately 3km. You can also pay a visit to the ruins of Deoparbat or Deopahar nearby, in addition to the tea, coffee and rubber farms. An unexplored nature’s gift, it is also called ‘Kakojan’.
