Congress President Rahul Gandhi appointed Tripura royal scion Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarman as the State party President on Tuesday. The 41-year-old, who has been actively working for the Congress since 2008, replaced Birajit Sinha, a former Minister and five time legislator. Sinha was the Tripura Pradesh Congress President since January 2015.
Debbarman, whose father Kirit Bikram Kishore Manikya Debbarman and mother Bibhu Kumari Devi were Lok Sabha members for several terms, said that he would constitute several committees and a State body at the earliest in consultation with Gandhi and other Central and State leaders.
‘I would try my best to further rejuvenate the party in Tripura in unity with all senior and young leaders and party workers’, he stated. Debbarman and other leaders of all Northeastern states are scheduled to meet Rahul Gandhi today in Guwahati.
