Mizoram Sports minister Robert Romawia Royte on Sunday informed that the state is likely to host National Games in 2024. ‘A proposal to host the XXXXI National Games in 2024 was submitted by chief minister Zoramthanga to Indian Olympic Association (IOA) secretary-general Rajeev Mehta on Friday,’ said Royte.
‘Mehta told the chief minister that Mizoram greatly deserves to host the national games as it is a football-loving state,’ Royte added. The state sports minister further informed that Mehta had promised the CM to make efforts for allowing Mizoram to host the national games in collaboration with the Centre.
Royte said that the hosting of National Games by Mizoram is long overdue as the state’s performance in various sports disciplines is excellent. ‘Once a decision to host National Games 2024 is made, great leap will happen in various sports disciplines,’ he said. He said officials of IOA will soon visit the state to study the feasibility.
Royte also appealed all sports loving states to support Mizoram to host National Games in 2024. He also thanked the chief minister for taking the initiative, which if materialized, will be a milestone in the history of Mizoram.
‘Once a decision to host National Games 2024 is made, the great leap will happen in various sports disciplines,’ said Royte. He further informed that Indian Olympic Association (IOA) officials would soon visit the state for studying the feasibility of holding the mega sporting event.
