In a bid to promote self employment Medhavi foundation along with United Bank of India’s Rural Self Employment Training Institute (RSETI) and NSDC has organised a two day seminar on entrepreneurship and self-employment in Meherpur of Silchar. Around 500 youths from Cachar district took part in the seminar making it a huge success. Shahed Choudhury, Program Coordinator and Sr. Faculty at RSETI said, ‘This is the first seminar in any PMKK (Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendra) of the region and I thank Medhavi Foundation for coming forward in addressing the biggest problem of Barak Valley which is unemployment.’
Addressing the seminar, Choudhury expressed the concern of financial literacy amongst the people and their knowledge on the financial initiatives of the Government. He named the number of government schemes like PMJDY, PMSBY, PMJJBY, Atal Pension Yojana, Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana, Digital Transactions, Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana, PMEGP etc.
‘As a skill training partner, our utmost job is to impart skill training to anyone and everyone who joins our program. A seminar like this is a significant step towards spreading awareness about financial literacy and the specifics of how to apply for loans creating an ecosystem of opportunities for everyone’ says Utpal Mukhopadhyay, Regional Manager, Medhavi Foundation.
Kiran Kumari, who is the first female plumber student in the whole of Barak valley says, ‘Today we are discussing topics like financial Literacy and how to become an entrepreneur. I am thankful to the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and also towards Medhavi Foundation for constantly providing us with such opportunities.’
‘I am so glad to know that now in our city, we have a PMKK where students can learn about automotive, electronics, plumbing etc all for free of cost with such a fabulous infrastructure. Wish we had such possibilities ten years ago. But now that we finally have such opportunity’ adds Debdas Deb, Project Assistant at the United Bank of India, RSETI, Cachar, Assam. The main objective of the said seminar was to make the students and youth in the town aware about the different areas of skills where they can establish themselves as entrepreneurs and create job for others.
