Shishu Sarothi celebrated the International Day of Persons with Disabilities on 3rd December 2019 within its premises and at Central Mall yesterday. This year the theme of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities focuses on the empowerment of persons with disabilities for inclusive, equitable and sustainable development as anticipated in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which pledges to ‘leave no one behind’ and recognizes disability as a cross-cutting issues, to be considered in the implementation of its seventeen Sustainable Development Goals.
The program organized at Shishu Sarothi saw children attending its Centre for Inclusive and Vocational Education (CIVE) participate in recitation, dance and ‘Go As You Like’ which was followed by a Cake Cutting ceremony. The aim of this program was to promote the idea of participation and leadership which is in line with this year’s theme of International Day of Persons with Disabilities. There was also a performance by students of Physiotherapy Department, Royal School of Medical and Allied Sciences, Assam Royal Global University, Guwahati.
Later, in the day, Shishu Sarothi’s staff members performed a street play to promote Inclusion at the outer premises of Central Mall, G.S. Road, Guwahati which was followed by interaction with the public.
