The hilarious team of Local Kung Fu and Heavy Budget are back with their new feature film Local Utpaat which will be released on September 4 this year. Written and directed by Kenny Basumatary, the teaser of Local Utpaat was released on February 11. To meet the expenses for the film’s post-production and release, the team is running a crowd funding campaign on wishberry.in. So far over, 400 people have contributed a total of approximately 4.3 lakh rupees. If the target amount of Rs 10 lakh is not reached however, all the money will be returned to the contributors.
Addressing a press conference today, the team said that people can contribute any amount they wish and get various incentives like an autographed hard copy of a photo from the film, access to watch the film online, or a poster, or a special thank you video from a cast member chosen by the contributor. In a YouTube pitch video, writer-director Kenny Basumatary mentioned that although the reviews of Suspended Inspector Boro were very good, they couldn’t afford enough publicity and the film was unable to get enough viewers to recover the budget. Family and friends have chipped in for the cost of food and other daily expenses for the crew, who have all agreed to defer their payments. ‘I am really lucky to have such a supportive circle of cast, crew and family. Hopefully, this is the last time we’ll have to ask for help, because if Local Utpaat recovers its budget, then we can recycle that same money to make subsequent films. I want to make films in different genres – romantic comedy, horror, murder mystery, Local Kung Fu 3 etc etc,’ he said.
The lead pair in Local Utpaat is Bonny Deori and Poonam Gurung. Kenny informed that the film is an out-and-out comedy that you can watch repeatedly with all your friends and family. The team had previously successfully crowdfunded Rs 8.9 lakh on wishberry.in for Local Kung Fu 2, which was doing very well in theatres.
