Arunachal Pradesh finally got its 20th district on Friday. The new district- Siang with headquarters in Pangin was inaugurated by Chief Minister Nabam Tuki along with Education Minister Tapang , also present were government representatives from both the Centre and State.
While addressing the gathering, Tapang Taloh, the local MLA of Pangin Assembly Constituency said, ‘It is a historic day for the people of Siang, after several obstacles, finally, we managed to get a new district.’
He also said that given the technicalities to decide the district headquarters which was pending for many months, Pangin has finally been selected as the headquarter of the newly created district.
‘There was a controversy regarding the district headquarters as the people residing at Boleng, located around 20 kilometres from Pangin, had demanded that Boleng be made the district headquarter, even the cabinet had once approved the same,’ he pointed out, adding, ‘However, considering the technical issues which include acquiring of land for construction of district offices buildings, Pangin proves to be better.’
It is to be mentioned here that continuing their protests, the people of Boleng called for a 12 hr strike on Friday, by stating the matter as sub-judiced, because they have gone to the court to appeal for a stay order, and expect a recall by the state government. However, till date, the Gauhati High Court has not issued any legal order over this matter.
