While most of the exit polls predicting a win for the BJP and its alliance in Assam Assembly polls 2016, Assam CM Tarun Gogoi has rubbished these predictions.
In the wake of three national news channels claiming that BJP and its alliance would get 79 to 93 seats and form the next government in Assam, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said, ‘These exit polls were not done by anyone who was observing each and every constituency. These are results declared by someone sitting in Delhi. We do not believe in that. Congress is confident of forming the government for the next term.’
Another senior Congress man and Spokesperson of the party, Apurba Bhattacharjee while addressing newsmen in Guwhati said, ‘Congress is not at all worried about exit poll results. Exit poll is like SEBA conducting the exam and CBSE declaring the results. National media did not do a thorough survey about the polls. In most cases, exit poll results do not match. People of Assam know who will represent them by forming a stable government.’
Notably, The India Today-Axis exit poll gave 79-93 seats to the BJP combine, 26-33 to the Congress and 6-10 to the All India United Democratic Front.
ABP-Nielsen predicted 81 seats to the BJP coalition, 33 to the Congress and 10 to the AIUDF. The NewsX Chanakya poll has given gave 90 seats to the BJP combine, 27 to the Congress and 9 to the AIUDF.
