Students who indulge in unhealthy practices like cheating during examinations are going to have sleepless nights thanks to the new announcement of the Assam Government. To stop the unscrupulous practices during the HSLC, HS and High Madrassa examinations across the State, CCTV will be installed in more than 2000 examination halls across Assam. State Education Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma has made it clear that if some discrepancies happen during the examination, the onus will be on the concerned teachers. He said, ‘ The department won’t take the blame for mistakes committed by two or three people.’
Sarma also asked teachers to voluntarily refrain from accepting exam duty if his/her children is appearing for the same exam. If any such person is found invigilating an exam, the teacher would be sacked. To prevent the leakage of question paper, he said, ‘ The rooms where question papers will be kept will be as secure as the strongroom where ballot boxes are kept during election. Nobody will be allowed to take mobile phones inside those rooms.’
Increasing the tension of students, Sarma said he will pay surprise visits to 30-40 examination centres to find whether exam is being conducted smoothly. Deputy Commissioners of concerned districts, Commissioner Secretary, Education Department and Chief Secretary have also been instructed to do the same.
