The last rites of Assam Rifles jawan Luhit Gogoi, who was martyred in Ukhrul took place with full military honour today. The last rites were performed at Dopdor Abhayapuri of Amguri in Sivasagar, which is the native village of Gogoi. He was martyred in an IED explosion triggered by suspected militants at Kashungabout in Ukhrul district of Manipur.
Luhit Gogoi was a well known man in his locality and his demise has cast a pall of gloom in the region. He is survived by his wife Dipa Gogoi and two children.
Gogoi had joined the 17 Regiment of Assam Rifles in 1985 and was transferred to the Kasom camp at Ukhrul in Manipur from Shillong in 2015. He was part of a patrolling party which came under an IED attack at Bunpun, 5 km North East of Kasong in Kamjong District of Manipur around 11.30 am on June 15.
