After suffering a humiliating innings defeat against Delhi in their Ranji opener this season, Assam will face Rajasthan in a crucial tie starting from today. Last year, Assam had enjoyed a thumping victory of innings and 152 runs against Rajasthan at Barsapara.
In their match against Delhi, Assam players miserably failed to hit form with J Syed Mohammad (82 in the second innings) and Tarjinder Singh (61 in the first innings) being the only notable contributors for the home side. On the bowling front, pacer Abu Nechim Ahmed bagged 5 wickets conceding 106 runs.
The lacklustre show of the players in the first match is certainly a matter of concern for the think tank of the Assam team. If the team continues their dismal show, last season’s runners-up Assam will have to face a tough time in the coming matches.
Interesting Duel On the Cards
Till now Assam and Rajasthan have faced each other five times in the past. While Rajasthan won thrice, Assam got the better of their opponent in two occasions. Their most memorable encounter against Rajasthan was last year when they had defeated their seasoned opponents comprehensively. Batting first, Rajasthan had scored a paltry 186. However, Assam replied with a mammoth 422/9 decl powered by Arun Karthick’s 151. In the second innings, five wicket hauls by Krishna Das and Arup Das helped Assam to bowl out their opponent to just 84. No wonder, they will like to replicate something like that in this game as well.
