Assam starts their Ranji campaign today aiming to better their performance last year. In the last season, Assam had lost to Saurashtra in the semi final. This year, they will look to get past that hurdle and reach the final. They will start their Ranji journey against Delhi at Vadodara. The last time these two sides met, Assam had defeated their much fancied opponent. This time, they would be definitely looking for an encore.
Assam relaxed before match
Though expectations are certainly high from Assam before the match, the team is relaxed before the match. Captain Gokul Sharma said, ‘ There is no pressure on us. This is a new season and we start from zero. I advised my boys not to take any pressure. They will play their natural game.’
This season Assam is going with a new coach in the form of former Indian left arm spinner Sunil Joshi. Sharma said that Joshi is guiding the team very well. His presence is also highly beneficial for the spinners in the team.
Assam in Ranji
Assam however doesn’t have a record to boast for in Ranji. They have played 257 matches in the elite domestic competition out of which they have won just 44. They have lost 125 and drawn 88 games.
