Reacting to the allegation put forward by the AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi that he was not initially allowed to enter the ‘Burha-Satra’, Basistha Sarma, the Satradikhar of the Satra stated that there was no demonstration or protest in front of the Satra during Rahul Gandhi’s visit. While speaking to the media, he said, ‘I clearly deny any opposition or demonstration to prevent Rahul Gandhi to enter the Satra. On the contrary, I was personally there to receive him.’
Sarma also added that Minister Bhumidhar Barman and several other senior Congress leaders were also chatting with him while they were waiting for Rahul Gandhi’s arrival on Saturday. ‘The satra would have benefitted from his visit,’ he further pointed out.
He said, ‘I have seen a similar statement being made by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi; however, Bhumidhar Barman and other senior Congress leaders should tell him how we waited for nearly four hours until we were told that Rahul Gandhi had taken a different route bypassing the Barpeta Satra.’
Meanwhile, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has stated that Rahul Gandhi’s allegation is totally baseless, and also went on to say that the Chief Minister is trying to cook up a story with the forthcoming State Assembly elections in mind.
