With the approaching Assam legislative Assembly poll, two major political parties– Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) and Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) are leaving no stone unturned. Both the parties have fielded strong candidates against each other in almost every constituency. Following are a few constituencies which will witness big fights this time.
Titabor- (Tarun Gogoi vs Kamakhya Prasad Tasa) This time, the biggest fight will be in Titabor—Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi’s own constituency, where saffron brigade has fielded Jorhat MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa. Heavy weight leader Gogoi is a three time MLA from Titabor whereas Tasa has huge popularity among the youths of the constituency.
Majuli- (Rajib Lochan Pegu vs Sarbananda Sonowal) River Island Majuli will be crucial in upcoming State Legislative Assembly polls. Sitting Congress MLA and former State Minister– Rajib Lochan Pegu will face the heat from BJP chief ministerial candidate Sarbananda Sonowal.
Sonari- (Sarat Borkotoky vs Topon Kumar Gogoi) One of the new districts of the State, Sonari will also face tough competition this time. AASU leader turned politician Topon Kumar Gogoi is posing a threat to senior congress leader and former State Minister Sarat Borkotoky who has won the seat in the past three elections.
Jalukbari- (Himanta Biswa Sarma vs Niren Deka) Ruling Congress has inducted youth leader Niren Deka, challenging former congress strong man and three-time minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Sarma had quit the party and joined the saffron brigade after clashing with Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi.
Guwahati East- (Bobeeta Sharma vs Siddhartha Bhattacherjee) APCC has reshuffled a number of sitting MLAs this time, one of this is in East Guwahati constituency which was earlier in the hands of Robin Bordoloi, now noted Assamese actress Bobeeta Sharma will contest from the seat. Meanwhile the saffron brigade has fielded former State president Siddhartha Bhattacharjee to fight against her.
