Firstly, it was all the MLAs including current CM Pema Khandu deserting Congress. And now to make matters worse for Congress, the Khandu-led PPA Government is all set to induct a BJP member in the State Cabinet.
BJP’s ‘Congress Mukt Bharat’ Dream coming true?
The Pema Khandu led PPA Government has decided to invite BJP to join the government in the State. Tamiyo Taga, the leader of the saffron party in the State Assembly was sworn in today morning. Khandu’s supporters are of the view that if the BJP is part of the government, it will bring stability to the State which shares a long border with China.
This will make Arunachal Pradesh the fourteenth state where the saffron party is in power. Not only that, this will be the sixth state where it shares power with regional parties. Those numbers do make bleak readings for the Congress. And if that was not enough, in the House of 60 members, PPA has 43, BJP 11 and Congress has only a solitary member.
These numbers leaves little to the imagination about whether BJP’s ‘Congress Mukt Bharat’ dream is coming into fruition or not.
Roller Coaster Ride for Arunachal Politics
Arunachal Pradesh politics has been on a roller-coaster for a year now. On September 17, the State slipped out of Congress rule after CM Khandu and all but one Congress lawmaker deserted the party and joined the People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA). It is to be noted that PPA is a BJP ally and a member of the North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA), which in turn is a party of the NDA. Former Chief Minister Nabam Tuki still remains in Congress.
Earlier this month, the CM reportedly met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi and invited the BJP to join his government.
