Notorious car thief and contract killer Bubu Konwar who had terrorized the State since long has been finally arrested by police. Hazarika has himself boasted of killing 42 people. A team from Assam led by Hrishikesh Hazarika, OC, Jorhat PS and Dipak Bora, OC, Khatkhati PS with the aid of Difupar police in Dimapur caught Bubu. One Chinese grenade and a 7.65 pistol were recovered from his possession. The team also recovered a TATA Sumo which was recently stolen by Bubu. GPS was installed in the vehicle and trailing the GPS signal, police managed to catch him.
The illustrious career of Bubu Hazarika
Bubu Konwar began his criminal career at a very early age. At the age of 16 years, he did petty thefts and robberies and later he graduated to stealing cars, murdering and kidnapping. Though he hails from Amguri in Sibsagar, he grew up in Nagaland. . Despite losing three fingers on his right hand eight years ago while trying to make a crude bomb at home, this son of a former Nagaland police constable continued to carry out his brutal killings. After committing most of his crimes in Assam, he would flee to Nagaland. He himself admitted of killing 42 people.
Some of his headline grabbing crimes was killing physician Mridul Baruah in 2006, killing Congress leader Hemanta Baruah in 2008, killing headmaster of Namuna Bagan Primary School, Dwijendra Nath Gogoi etc. He had also trapped businessman Kailash Ginoria in 2012 in a honey trapping case using his wife as bait and later killed him.
