In a major blow to rising ‘Jihadi’ activities in the State, Assam police has apprehended six militants of Jamaat ul Mujaheedin, including ‘Burabhai’ who was allegedly involved in the 2nd October blast at Burdwan last year.
IGP (BTAD), L R Bishoi, told ENe, ‘On the basis of intelligence received, the police arrested the “jehadis” from Baksa, Chirang, Goalpara and Kokrajhar district respectively’.
‘Besides, Assam police has also managed to nab Monirul Islam alias Burabhai who had been absconding since the police busted a jehadi camp in September this year,’ he further pointed out. Burabhai had allegedly visited Burdwan before the blasts last year and was also attempting to set up training camps for jehadis in Barpeta districts and along the Assam-Meghalaya border.
‘Huge quantities of arms and ammunition were seized from these militants,’ Bishoi informed. He further stated that it has come to light that recruitment and training of cadres of Jehadis from various districts was taking place by indoctrination led and funded by ‘Burabhai.’
It is to be mentioned here that presently six JMB militants are in the custody of Chirang police.
