Against Corruption and Unabated taxation (ACAUT), a Naga civil society group, recently filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) against seven government departments of Nagaland at the Gauhati High Court, Kohima Bench.
In a press statement issued by ACAUT, it stated that the PIL was filed against a number of State government departments, they are: Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC), Departments of Rural Development, Road and Bridges, State Council of Educational Research & Training (SCERT), Social Welfare, Higher Education, Health & Family Welfare, Home Department, Department of Law & Justice and Office of the Accountant General.
The statement further asserted, ‘Despite the series of backdoor appointments exposed by ACAUT, the Nagaland government has completely failed to take any appropriate steps’. It added, ‘In June 2015, ACAUT had exposed a number of anomalies in the State Rural Development Department.’
‘Seven departments have been made respondents and accordingly the court has been requested to direct the State Chief Secretary to furnish information on corruption in public employment from the rest of the departments’. The PIL has further asked the court to direct the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to inquire officers, officials, politicians, including appointees, who are involved in the scam.
Besides, in order to maintain transparency in the selection process, the court has also been urged to take initiative for setting up a ‘Staff Selection Board’ (SSB) in the State of Nagaland in line with the Central Staff Selection Board.
