If you a traveller at heart then you should know about Awe Rides, a self-drive car and bike rental service available in Guwahati. It was founded by Rahul Sharma and Partha Saikia. ‘We always spend time travelling and discussing new business ideas. We have executed many business ideas successfully in the past. One fine day, while travelling, we came across the idea of offering cars and bikes on self drive to travellers which could make their travel experience a lot more memorable. We gave it no second thought. We planned in detail the next day itself, got the investment within a week and started our journey,’ revealed the duo.
The Northeast Ride
Their services are also available in Pune and Chandigarh. They felt that Guwahati would be good place to start operations because Northeast is a traveller’s paradise. ‘Northeast is a place for bike enthusiasts. Guwahati being the hub of the Northeast seemed the most idle place to start with. Moreover, I have grown up in Guwahati. I understand the city better than any other city in India,’ shares Rahul.
Priority on Quality and Service
Many travellers have commended Awe Rides for their services including the likes of Joel Koechlin, father of Kalki Koechlin. ‘He took bikes from us for about a month to prepare for their travel show.’ The father and daughter duo were in the Northeast to shoot a travel series for Fox Life named Kalki’s Great Escape. However all their experiences with customers have not been nice, they have faced incidents wherein vehicles were damaged because of rough driving, or were stolen etc. But they share that this has not dampened their spirits in any way. ‘In fact, our spirit to do more has grown exponentially since we started.’
They are very particular about safety and quality, and so they have invested a lot in technology to secure their vehicles. Their vehicles are equipped with Vehicle Performance Reporting (VPR) technology – performance monitoring devices and GPS. This helps ensure security and also takes down the maintenance costs of the vehicles.
Awe Rides Mobile App
They are planning to launch a mobile app soon which will further simplify the entire booking and trip experience. Customers will be able to book rides as per their convenience, all payments will be taken online, and there will be an Awe Wallet which will let users make payment and get refunds in a convenient way.
‘The customers will have the option to pay advance token amount instead of the entire amount. We will also let our loyal customers pay for their future trips on credit. We are working with the best team for developing the technology. The team who developed the UI for Starbucks and ICICI mobile banking is designing the user interface of our app,’ informs Rahul.
