One of the oldest festivals of the Nyishi community is Longte. It will be celebrated across the Nyishi inhabited districts in Arunachal Pradesh. The word Longte is a compound of two words, ‘Long’ from Solung (most popular festival of the Adis of Arunachal) and ‘Te’ which means bigger or larger. Combined it means a large-scale ceremony with a fencing installed around the area to keep out evil forces.
It is generally celebrated between 10-15 April every year. This ceremony doesn’t require any animal sacrifice, unlike the others. Some of the main highlights of the festival will be traditional games and sports like archery, pole-wrestling and high-jump and cock-fight etc.
