Guwahati Runners, a running group based in Guwahati is organizing The Great North Eastern Run – Guwahati City Half Marathon. The marathon will be held on December 18 and will start from Khanapara field. The run has three categories 21.1km – Half Marathon, 10km Challenge and 5km Fun Run. The registration fees for the 21.1km run is Rs 600, 10km Rs 600 and 5km is Rs 300. There will also be cash prizes for the winners.
The first two categories are competitive, where the runners will be given automated time chips to measure their distance and time. The lust one is the fun category and is attracting a sizeable crowd. Till now around 900 people have registered for various categories, which is expected to go upto 3000 participants. The people participating will be getting a complimentary medal, certificate and post run refreshments.
IPS Officer Sanjukta Parashar, Pranai Bordoloi, DY365, who were present at the panel, talked about the virtues of running. The sole purpose of organizing this marathon is to create awareness of healthy living through fitness activities like running, jogging and walking. One of its objectives is also to promote sports tourism in the region.
