Book lovers in Guwahati now have somewhere to head to this weekend as the 18th North East Book Fair is underway at Assam Engineering Institute playground, Chandmari. Organized by the All Assam Publishers and Book Sellers Association, the book fair will continue till November 14.
224 Stalls For Book Lovers
Much to the delight of bookworms, more than 90 publishing houses from across the country, including New Delhi, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Mumbai and Ludhiana will be taking part in the fair this year around. The fair has around 224 stalls, so no matter if you want to get your hands on new releases or want to build up a collection of books by Northeast writers, you are bound to find what you are looking for.
The 18th North East Book Fair has been dedicated to eminent poet and literary critic Nalinidhar Bhattacharya and the seminar hall has been dedicated to noted Assamese writer Mahim Bora.
Interactions with Authors
As part of the fair, interactions will also be organized wherein book lovers will get to meet and interact with their favourite authors. On November 9 evening, young fans will get a chance to meet Ravinder Singh. A popular Indian author, he has written five novels namely I Too Had a Love Story, Can Love Happen Twice?, Like it happened Yesterday, Your Dreams are Mine Now and This Love That Feels Right.
Another interaction session will be held with Hiren Gohain on the evening of November 13. A literary critic, poet and social scientist from Assam, he is well-known among book lovers in the Northeast.
Free for Students
In order to encourage the youth to take an interest in books and inculcate the habit of reading, the fair will be free for all school students. All other bookworms will just have a pay a minimum entry fee of Rs 10 to enjoy the fair.
