Allegation of doctors neglecting their duties is not uncommon in Assam, especially in the rural areas. However, it seems that state health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has decided to deal with the truant doctors with an iron fist. The minister today ordered pay cut of doctors who report late for duty.
Facebook Post of Himanta Biswa Sarma
Himanta in a facebook post informed the public that he has strongly acted against the truant doctor. In the post, he wrote, ‘I am deeply perturbed to find out that today until 9.30 am not a single doctor had reported for duty at the Nalbari Civil Hospital. This is a serious dereliction of duty. I have ordered a general pay cut for the day.
I also wish to request all doctors and support staff across #Assam to please ensure there is no compromise with discipline. The Government of Assam shall keep a close vigil and will not allow laxity of any kind.’
It is not the first time that Himanta has acted tough against the doctors. Even in the past, when he was the health minister during the Congress regime, he had said that VRS will be given to those doctors with irregular attendance.
