In an extremely disturbing incident, an injured elephant stuck in a muddy pit is waiting to be rescued since the last six days. The incident has happened in Chapanala in Nagaon district. The elephant reportedly has sustained serious injuries on its leg. Locals are feeding the ailing pachyderm. However, the indifference of forest department has also come to the fore in this issue. The locals have alleged that despite being informed, they have not provided any help.
Meanwhile, in Upper Assam, elephants have been literally wreaking havoc. They have destroyed human habitation and crops at Agbondha village in Margherita in Tinsukia district of Assam. Depredation by wild tuskers in various parts of Assam has become a regular feature these days.The herd of elephants strayed into the area from Upper Dihing forest area.The marauding jumbos have demolished several houses in the village and destroyed crop fields.
