Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju condemned last week’s attack on chief minister Okram Ibobi Singh’s chopper at Ukhrul and said the Centre will look into it and take appropriate action.
The Centre has received information about the incident, which will be assessed from different angles, Rijiju said while talking to the media at the Kanglatongbi area near Imphal on the sidelines of a BJP political conference on Sunday.
The MoS arrived here on a two-day visit to the state. BJP has been campaigning to overthrow the 15-year Congress regime in the upcoming assembly polls to be held early next year.
On October 24, suspected NSCN (IM) cadres had fired rounds at the Ukhrul helipad when the chopper carrying the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam and their cabinet colleagues ascended a few metres from the ground. The attack injured a Manipur Rifles jawan. On the previous night, the rebels had attacked a group of India Reserve Battlion there with two lathod bombs, injuring personnel.
