Henry Threadgill was recently awarded the 2016 Pulitzer Prize in Music at a ceremony in New York City. He is the husband of Naga songwriter and vocalist Senti Toy, also known as Sentienla Toy Threadgill.
Henry was awarded the Pulitzer for his composition ‘In for a Penny, In for a Pound’ which had premiered at Roulette Intermedium on December 4, 2014. It is a work written in four main movements to be performed in a chamber space for tuba, cello, guitar, saxophone/flute and drums.
A veteran of the Chicago collective the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (or AACM), Henry Threadgill currently lives in New York City with his wife. A talented composer and bandleader, he has won numerous awards and accolades throughout his career.

Senti Toy started off her musical career in Mumbai as a recording artist. She was featured on MTV Asia sponsored by Pepsi as one of the 20 top singers of India in 1993, even when she had no album or releases to her name.
Her debut album received much critical international acclaim. Wall Street Journal had picked her album as one of 2007’s top ten albums. She also has a doctoral degree in Ethnomusicology.
