Simoco Telecommunications (South Asia) Ltd is interested in setting up a manufacturing unit in Assam. This Calcutta-based company, selected through a bidding process, has already installed 9,500 LED streetlights in Guwahati under the Guwahati Municipal Corporation’s Project Jyoti. Simoco has also supplied LED lights to Gauhati University, Numaligarh Refinery Limited and Indian Oil Corporation.
The company plans to install similar streetlights all across the State. ‘The response has been good and more than 5,000 applications, seeking such lights, are still pending with the corporation. The business has been good and it will increase as LED lights are being promoted by the government,’ said Simoco Executive Director Salil Chaudhuri.
The company is looking into setting up a manufacturing facility in Assam if it gets government support. ‘We are expecting a turnover of Rs 100 crore in the next couple of years from Assam.’
