Witnessing the recent intra-party rift in Arunachal Pradesh, the All India Congress Committee has decided to carry out a major reshuffle in the Okram Ibobi Singh’s cabinet. The reshuffle is slated to take place before Holi, sources say.
This development took place after the Congress high command took into account the long-standing complaints of the 25 dissident Congress MLAs. During their visit to the national capital last week, the dissidents submitted a list of underperforming ministers, including three from the hills and as many from the valley area to the AICC leaders. ‘We have received information that the reshuffle will be effected before Yaoshang Holi,’one of the dissidents disclosed to media.
The rebel MLAs have been demanding a major reshuffle in the Ibobi ministry, dropping incompetent ministers and inducting posts from amongst the legislators. They also sought that the party high command either strip the ministerial berth or Manipur PCC president’s post from Gaikhangam, who also holds the home portfolio. ‘We don’t want autocratic ministers, whose lacklustre performance is out there for all to see. We demand a major reshuffle,’ a rebel MLA demanded. ‘As assured by the party high command, the conventional ‘one man one post’ policy of the Congress will be implemented soon.’
Acknowledging the dissident MLAs’ pleas, Sonia assured compliance at the earliest. Besides, she asked the legislators to work together for the return of the party to power for the fourth consecutive term in the assembly elections. However, the dissidents did not seek a change of leadership, stating that they retain confidence in Ibobi Singh.
