In a mysterious incident, a young Manipuri student pursuing PhD from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) was found dead in his hostel in the campus on Tuesday night. The student identified as J R Philemon Raja was in room no 171 at the Brahmaputra Hostel and was pursuing a PhD in West Asia studies. The family members of the youth who stay at the Senapati district of Manipur has been informed about the incident through the Delhi Police North East Cell.
Other inmates of the hostel informed police that Raja had locked himself up inside the room for the past three days. Other students at the hostel reported about a foul smell from the room following which the security officials were informed about the incident. Cops later broke open the door and recovered the decomposed body.
Preliminary investigation indicating suicide
The cause of this mysterious death has not been ascertained as of now. Preliminary investigations did not rule out the possibility of a suicide, the body has been sent for an autopsy at the AIIMS. Though prima facie there were no signs of injury, police say that the cause of death can be ascertained after an autopsy. Officers who had reached the hostel after the incident say that the body was decomposed beyond recognition. An inquest proceeding has been initiated at the Vasant Kunj (North) police station.
