Northeast United FC have little time to savour their victory in the opening match of the Hero Indian Super League as they now prepare to face FC Goa at Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium, Guwahati.
Goa will be riding high on Zico’s presence; they have been the semi finalist and finalists in previous seasons making them one of the best performing teams of ISL. Their marquee again is Lucio, the strong Brazilian defender. If their key players namely Lucio their marquee, play-maker Jofre and last year’s top scorer Reinaldo play to their strengths then it would give them an advantage. They have also added Indian striker Robin Singh to the team whose performance could be crucial for the team.
In the previous seasons, Goa has been known for playing open attacking football and this year too, it is looking like Zico will be attacking with all his might.
Northeast United FC
In the first match of the season, the strikers of Northeast United FC were seen in full-flow including local boy Holicharan Narzary but there was a lack of co-ordination in the midfield. Hopefully, they will overcome this drawback and show more free flowing football in today’s match.
Northeast United FC’s strength lies in Nicolas Velez, the top scorer for Northeast United in the last season. It is good news for the home team that he will also have the support of Japan’s playmaker Katsumi Yusa who scored the opener of the season with Velez’s assist.
Northeast’s defence is looking strong with robust Nirmal Chettri, nimble footed Robin Gurung and Reagan Singh. Their co-ordination with Brazilian Mailson Alves and captain Gustavo Lazzaretti is also commendable. But today they will be have to do lot more to stop Reinaldo and company from dominating the scoreboard.
Players to look out for:
Northeast United: Katsumi Yusa and Nirmal Chettri
FC Goa: Reinaldo and Jofre.
