As an entrepreneur we are most likely to embark on the business idea which profits us the most. But what about an idea that profits millions others. This is exactly what Rajlakshmi Borthakur did. Her company TerraBlue XT, through its flagship product Tjay, is at the forefront of countering epilepsy and helping millions in India.
About her journey
A seasoned professional with over 17 years of experience, Rajlakshmi started out in despair. Raji (as she is popularly known) dreamt of making a device that could give her some indication of her son’s impending seizure. Her son Tejas, who has epilepsy since birth often required emergency medical care to bring his seizures under control.
While she was trying to comprehend the intricacies of her son’s problem, it dawned on her that there are many (patients and parents) who didn’t understand the problem. Thus TerraBlue XT was born. The company initially started with Raji’s crude efforts at creating a prototype for the early detection of epilepsy. And what started as a private project has grown into a full-blown company. And a very good one at that. TerraBlue XT was one of the winners of PM Narendra Modi’s ‘Innovate for Digital India Challenge 2015’ for their aforementioned flagship product.
What is Tjay?
A smart glove capable of sensing electrical signals from your body, keeping track of your health and letting you know how you are doing while you sleep, work and go about your daily routine. TJay is currently designed for the early detection and management of epilepsy.
The glove has 10 sensors that extracts information from the palm of a hand. This information is transmitted continuously to Poketee, which is a personal data gateway and intelligent system that comes with TJay. Poketee keeps sending this information to our cloud environment at set intervals.
How it will help us?
The first step towards managing epilepsy in Assam started with the inauguration of TerraBlue XT Telemedicine platform, a system through which epileptic patients and their families can avail treatment and counselling via teleconference with prominent neurosurgeons and experts from different parts of the country. The platform is currently housed in Guwahati Bio-Tech Park.
