The Greensight Project is an initiative of the Students’ Union of Mopungchuket (MALT) that was launched in July 2016. A 5-year ‘scenic enhancement programme’ with the motto ‘Growing Dreams’, their vision is to ‘enhance the scenic values of the landscapes and transform Mopungchuket into a garden village.’
Recently about 40 volunteers undertook a cleanliness drive in the village as part of The Greensight Project. They also planted some selected fruit plant saplings along the Mopungchuket-Milak roadside.
A Stretch of Green
As part of the project which will culminate in the year 2021, MALT aims to grow a collection of 100 different ornamental trees, indigenous wild fruit-bearing trees and maple trees along the 11 km stretch of the Mopungchuket-Milak road. They also plan to introduce exotic flowers and orchids apart from trees.
River Clean-Up and a Cherry Avenue
MALT will be initiating river clean-up exercises in all the rivers under Mopungchuket territory and work towards the protection and preservation of biodiversity. In addition to that, they will develop a ‘cherry avenue’ in the village.
The ultimate goal will be to popularize eco-tourism along with sustainable economic development of Mopungchuket village.
