Former Chief Minister and lone MP from Nagaland, Neiphiu Rio has sought the intervention of the Centre for setting up of a high level committee to analyse the present political scenario of Manipur where protesters are demanding to withdraw the three Bills passed by Manipur Assembly.
During the zero-hour of Parliament session, Rio informed that the hill people of Manipur are protesting against the passing of three bills in the Manipur Assembly. ‘The issue needs the intervention of the House in an ardent manner and also steps need to be taken up immediately,’ Rio further pointed out, adding, ‘These bills were hurriedly enacted by the Manipur Assembly on August 31 last. On the same day, it was passed without proper consultations with hill leaders.’ He pointed out that this is a clear violation of the act, as per Article 371 C a, prior consultations with tribal representatives elected from the hill areas of the State is required.
It is to be mentioned here that the Manipur Legislative Assembly had convened a one-day special session to pass three bills, titled Protection of Manipur Peoples’ Bill, 2015; Manipur Land Revenue and Land Reform Bill, 2015 and Manipur Shops and Establishments Bill, 2015.
