A two-day philatelic exhibition is being hosted by the Department of Posts in Silchar. The exhibition will be held on September 16 and 17 at Banga Bhawan. It will showcase hundreds of postal stamps which are known for their antique value and history.
Competition for Local Philatelists
The stamps showcased would be divided into two categories – invitee class and competitive class. Local philatelists have been asked to submit their entries. A jury is selected to judge the competition. The winner will be awarded a gold medal, whereas the second and third will receive silver and bronze medals respectively.
Activities for School Children
Apart from this, there will be a host of activities lined up for school children. This will help encourage them to collect rare items. The Department will release two special covers – one on Banga Bhawan and the other on the Silchar blood bank. A workshop will also be held in which experts will train people who are interested on how to collect and preserve the stamps.
Philatelic Deposit Account
People who are interested in collecting the new stamps that are going to be released will be able to open a philatelic deposit account in the post office. All new stamps that will be released from time to time will be sent to their postal address.
