Taking a break from padyatra in Uttar Pradesh, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi will come to Assam this Thursday. Gandhi will appear in the Magistrate’s Court in Kamrup district in a defamation case filed against him.
Defamation case against Rahul Gandhi
Rahul has been summoned by the court in a criminal defamation case filed by an RSS volunteer over allegations that the Congress leader was not allowed by Sangh members to enter Barpeta Satra, a 16th-century Vaishnavite monastery in Assam. He is not seeking exemption and is keen to use the court date to launch another attack on the RSS, party leaders said.
Recently Rahul withdrew his plea from Supreme Court for quashing of criminal defamation charges in a case filed by a local RSS leader in Maharashtra for his remarks that ‘RSS people’ were involved in the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi. He had told the apex court that he would stand trial in the case.
