Gonjang Monastery, Sikkim
Established in the year 1981, Gonjang Monastery is located near Tashi View Point. The founder, H.E. Tingkye Gonjang Rimpoche was recognized as an incarnation of Yolmo Terton Ngakchang Shakya Zangpo, a 15th century Nyingmapa Terton. It also houses Thadrol Dorjee Memorial Community Health Care Centre which provides medication to monks and locals.
Rumtek Monastery, Sikkim
Currently the largest monastery in Sikkim, Rumtek is located 24 kilometres from Gangtok. It is home to a community of monks who perform rituals and practices of the Karma Kagyu lineage. It also houses a golden stupa which contains the relics of the 16th Karmapa.
Tawang Monastery, Bomdila
The largest monastery in India, Tawang Monastery is situated in the valley of the Tawang River. It is three stories high and houses 65 residential buildings. The monastery’s library is home to many valuable old scriptures, mainly Kangyur and Tengyur.
Enchey Monastery, Gangtok
Established in 1909, Enchey Monastery belongs to the Nyingma order of Vajrayana Buddhism. Located on Gangtok-Nathula road, it provides spectacular views of the Kanchendzonga peak. It has a large collection of masks as well as a good library.
