Internationally acclaimed artist Utpal Barua has earned a rare laurel for his country and home state Assam. He has won gold medal for his painting titled ‘Day Dream’ at G20 International Art Exhibition held at Hangzhou, China. Top artists from G20 member countries like Argentina, Australia, Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, USA and England had participated in the competition. From India, Baruah was accompanied by artist Mahendra Puri.
Baruah’s painting however received unprecedented appreciation from the art enthusiasts. To acknowledge his art, this painting will be preserved in Queen Jiang Museum in China. Narrating his experience of working on this painting, Baruah said, ‘ Day Dream is one of the best paintings of my life. This painting speaks about peace, liberty, humanity, environment protection and freedom of women. The country where women are not free can’t be called independent in my eyes.’
