To counter Bharatiya Janta Party’s (BJP’s) mega rally in Dibrugarh, the ruling Congress has staged a mass protest in Guwahati on Friday demanding immediate removal of State acting governor P B Acharya for his alleged remark, ‘Hindustan is for Hindus.’
Speaking to ENe, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) spokesperson, Bobbeeta Sharma said, ‘The Governor holds a constitutional position but unfortunately he does not have any regard for the Constitution, because of which he made such a remark.’ She further said, ‘Our governor is acting more like a ‘RSS pracharak’ which is not only affecting the State but whole country.’
Stating about the mass protest, Sharma said, ‘More than 10,000 congress workers have participated in the protest march from Sonaram High School playground to Kamrup (metropolitan) deputy commissioner’s office.’
‘We have submitted a memorandum to President Pranab Mukherjee through DC Kamrup (Metro) regarding the removal of acting governor within one month,’ she further asserted, adding, ‘If Centre fails to meet our demand within the given deadline, then APCC will stage demonstrations every day in front of Raj Bhawan.’
Meanwhile, addressing the masses during the mega-rally, BJP president Amit Shah and other top state BJP leaders- Himanta Biswa Sarma, Sarbanada Sonowal slammed chief minister Tarun Gogoi by claiming, ‘The State government had miserably failed in submitting utilization certificates for over Rs 12,000 crore central funds for which the Centre has halted allotting funds to the State.’ Besides, Shah dared Gogoi to submit utilisation certificates for the last 15 years.
