In a tragic accident, a Russian national lost his life while rafting in Arunachal Pradesh. He was reportedly drowned during a rafting expedition on October 31 in Lower Subansiri district and his body was found today morning. Lower Subansiri Deputy Commissioner Kemo Lollen said that the rafter reportedly drowned during a rafting expedition at Kamla River near Tamin. Lollen informed that a five-member team from Russia had reached Kurung Kumey district a few days ago. The deceased rafter has not been identified as of yet.
‘We have no information on the tourists visiting either Kurung Kumey or Lower Subansiri districts and the administration came to know about the accident only yesterday,’ he said.
He added that the body was kept at the General Hospital in Ziro for postmortem and the police would need a clearance from the Russian Embassy before they go ahead with the medical formalities.
The State Government has been made aware of the incident and accordingly Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Chief Secretary Shakuntala Doley Gamlin are in constant touch with the district administration, the DC said.
