This year Vishwakarma Puja will be a low key affair at Lall Bazaar in Gangtok. The Puja will take place indoors and no loud music will be played. This was informed by Lakpa Sherpa, the President of Sikkim Local Taxi Driver’s Association, Lall Bazaar.
The taxi stand is famous for putting up innovative pandals every year. Sherpa also informed that the organizers would not collect funds but instead donate essential commodities to shelter homes from the association’s fund.
This decision came in the wake of Gangtok being declared the cleanest city. The executive members are of the opinion that as drivers, it’s their duty to maintain the beauty and serenity of the State to attract more tourists.
The Three-Day Celebration
The Puja celebration which is three-day affair would start with a football match carrying a message against drugs among the members. The next day, the members will visit the Children’s Welfare Society, Bojoghari and donate tracksuits, blankets, water bottles and containers to the students. Refreshments will also be served to the students.
On the day of the Puja, the members will visit Eswaramma Old Age Home, Jalipool and donate new clothes, cupboards and refreshments for the inmates. Through this initiative, they want to set an example for others to follow.
