Tension prevails in Tinsukia town of Upper Assam as unknown gun men fired at a cash carrying van, injuring two and killing one. Police believe it to be the work of ULFA (I).
One person was killed while two others were injured when unidentified gunmen opened fire on a van that was carrying cash in Assam’s Tinsukia district.
The van was reportedly carrying cash for tea garden employees in Pengree area of the district.
While the vehicle was passing through a reserve forest in the area, unidentified gunmen began firing indiscriminately in the direction of the van.
The deceased has been identified as Abhijit Paul, a local living in the area.
The other two, who have been grievously injured, have been admitted in the Assam Medical College Hospital in Dibrugarh. Both are guards from the Assam Tea Plantation Security Force.
Senior district police officials reached the spot soon after the incident and are currently investigating the matter.
Police suspect it is the work of ULFA (Independent), the breakaway anti-talks faction of the United Liberation Front of Assam.
